Iowa Rental Property Owners (RPO’s), plus property owners in general will be glad to hear that before the 2013 House Adjournment, a comprehensive Property Tax Reform bill, originating as SF295, has been passed by both the House and Senate, and is expected to be signed into Law by Governor Branstad.
IaREIA | ILA members will find the full context of Speaker Paulsen’s Adjournment Message to the House, given May 23, 2013 here. His message included significant detail on how the Property Tax reform bill will be implemented. Changes will not be “felt” until 2016, yet this is a significant step that has not been achieved, in over 10 years of trying!
One of the most exciting events we do, which teaches the most practical knowledge that real estate investors can get about the outstanding opportunities that “fixer-uppers” can bring (and the treacherous pitfalls that must be avoided) is our “Ugly House Bus Tour”.
It’s May 17, and starts at 2:00. The tour will run until approx 5:00. If you have to pick up the kids at the baby sitter, leave an extra 1/2 hour leeway, as we cannot guarantee you’ll be back exactly at 5:00.
The tour is an extra charge, because the Bus is an extra charge. And no, you can’t follow along behind in your car, unless you have special needs and get clearance with the event organizers. Attendees must sign the bus tour waiver!
This is intended to be a more personal experience for a smaller-sized group. We don’t yet know whether we’ll be in a shuttle or a big bus.
What we do know is that not everyone understands what the bus tour is about, so … we took time to record an audio message. In it, Roberta explains exactly what she and Mark have on the agenda. If you have any questions at all, they are likely answered on the audio, so listen and then … get signed up before someone takes your seat! Time to get on the bus, Gus!!!
Michele Brant – Communications 101 – May 16, 2013 – An overview of what she’ll be offering May 16, from 1:00 – 5:00 at the Airport Holiday Inn, Conference Center, 6111 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321 – at the Iowa Real Estate Investors Association Spring Conference, 2013.

Saturday, May 4th, sun, rain or snow, IaREIA-ILA will be on WOW 98.3 at noon. Nancy Maher, our Event Committee Chair and Andrew Lietzow were there to help get out the word about our Conference, starting May 16th, at 8:00AM.
We kick the event off with a four-hour “Housing Inspections Workshop”, offered by the City of Des Moines, Housing Inspection Division. Probably 90% of what Des Moines uses as rental codes is based on IPMC (International Property Maintenance Code – 2009+) which many municipalities across Iowa use as the basis of their municipal code.
The Des Moines Ordinances are in Chapter 60, which can be found here. This, according to Mary Newman who is a supervisor and a 20-year veteran with the Neighborhood Inspection Division of the City of Des Moines, is the first time they have offered such a comprehensive workshop focused on this important subject they will have inspectors there who are building inspectors, HVAC, electrical and plumbing, and will offer Q&A sessions with each of the speakers.
They would like to have questions early, as well, so this is a request for those who intend to attend to submit questions.
The audio of the radio segment is here.
